I translate official documents between English and Spanish for individuals and professional firms. These are some of the documents I handle.
Personal and civil registry documents
Criminal record certificates and background checks (ACRO, DBS, FBI background check), birth certificates, marriage certificates, divorce decrees, death certificates, adoption records and custody agreements. The receiving authority determines which certificate it requires.
Academic and professional documents
University degrees, academic transcripts, diplomas, professional certificates and supporting documents for recognition of qualifications or professional recognition in Spain.
Notarial, legal and financial documents
Powers of attorney (poderes notariales), wills and inheritance documents, notarial deeds (escrituras), court rulings and judgments, pension letters (UK State Pension and private schemes), employer income letters, bank statements and private health insurance policies.
Driving, medical, corporate and apostilled documents
UK driving licences for the exchange with the DGT, medical certificates and reports, company incorporation documents, articles of association and and any document that carries a Hague Apostille and needs to be translated together with the apostille itself.

Why choose a MAEC-appointed sworn translator?
Not every translation is valid for an official procedure. If the body requesting it is a public authority (the Spanish Administration, a court, a university, a notary, a consulate or a civil registry) it will only accept a translation signed and stamped by a translator appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC).
A regular translation, a bilingual friend's help or an AI translation may read fine, but the authorities will reject it and the appointment missed.

A PDF, a photo or a scan is fine. I check if it is a residency appointment, a notary signing, a degree homologation, a court filing, a job application… and, if you already have a deadline, the date. That's all I need to open the file.

I check that the document is complete and legible and review any instructions you provide. Full or extract, apostilled where it needs to be, all pages present, signatures and stamps legible. If something is missing or in the wrong format, I will let you know before you commit. Then I send you a closed price and delivery date.

FAQs about English–Spanish certified translations
Do I really need a certified sworn translation, or is a regular one enough?
It depends on the procedure. Ask the receiving authority whether it requires a sworn translation (traducción jurada), another accepted form of official translation or an ordinary translation.
How much does a sworn translation cost?
Short documents are quoted per document; longer or more technical texts may be quoted per word. See the indicative rates on the Prices page and send your documents for a fixed quote.
How long does it take?
For standard personal documents, typically 3 to 5 working days from receiving the file. Short documents like a driving licence or a single certificate can be faster. If you have an appointment coming up, tell me the date when you send the files and I'll confirm feasibility before I quote.
Can you translate documents from languages other than English?
My MAEC appointment is for English into Spanish and Spanish into English. For files that include documents in other languages, I can coordinate with other sworn translators I work with, so you receive the whole package from a single point of contact.
