Sworn Translation of your University Degree and Academic Transcript

Whether you're homologating a foreign qualification here, presenting your Spanish degree to a UK or US employer, applying to a professional register, or enrolling in a master's abroad, both documents almost always need a sworn translation to be accepted.

I'm Rosa Sánchez Montoya, sworn translator and interpreter for English appointed by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAEC Nº 3189). I translate university degrees, academic transcripts and related certificates in both directions: English into Spanish, or Spanish into English.

legal validity

Why your degree needs a sworn translation

Whichever authority is going to review your file (Spain's Ministry of Universities, a professional association, a foreign university, an employer's HR department) will only accept a translation signed and stamped by a translator officially appointed for that purpose.

In Spain that appointment comes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. My signature, stamp and declaration of accuracy give the translation the legal validity your receiving office needs.

when you need it

When you need an official translation of your degree

A degree and its transcript get pulled out for different reasons at different life stages. These are the four contexts I see most often at Tradusan.

Homologation and equivalence in Spain

Spain's Ministry of Universities requires a sworn translation of the foreign degree and full transcript before considering your homologation or equivalence application. I translate the documents; the homologation itself is filed by you or your gestor.

Colegiación (professional registration)

Doctors, nurses, architects, engineers, lawyers, teachers and other regulated professions need a sworn translation of the degree, and often the transcript, before their colegio enrolls them. If yours has sent you a document list, forward it with the file.

Applying for a job abroad

A Spanish degree presented to a UK, US or international employer is checked for authenticity before an offer is confirmed. A sworn translation into English signed by a MAEC-appointed translator satisfies that check in almost every case.

Continuing your studies abroad

Foreign universities ask for a certified translation of your degree and transcript before considering your application. British, Irish, US, Canadian and Australian institutions accept MAEC sworn translations as an official certified translation.

about me

Rosa Sánchez Montoya, sworn translator No. 3189

I've translated degrees and transcripts for British and Irish doctors coming to work in Spanish clinics, Spanish engineers with offers in the UK, teachers moving here with their family, master's students heading to the US, and professionals validating their qualifications for a second-career project on the Costa Blanca.

Each of those files goes to a different authority, and each authority reads the same document with different eyes. That's the part I already know when your file lands in my inbox. You deal with me directly from the first message until the sworn translation is signed and stamped in your hands.

the process

Get your degree translated

01

Send me your documents

WhatsApp or email. A scan of the paper title or the certified digital version works as a source. Include the transcript and, if you have it, the Diploma Supplement. Tell me which country and authority it's for.

02

You receive a fixed quote and a delivery date

I confirm price and turnaround before starting, and I flag anything that could delay acceptance: a missing apostille, or a Diploma Supplement that would make the translation unnecessary.

03

Signed and stamped translation in your inbox

Digital PDF with a valid electronic signature, ready to upload. Paper copy on request.

orihuela costa

Sworn translator in Orihuela Costa

Orihuela Costa has a large community of British and Irish professionals validating qualifications here.

If any of that fits you, I'm around the corner. Everything can be handled digitally wherever you are, or you can drop by the office to bring documents in person or collect the stamped paper original.

faqs

Frequently asked questions about the translation of university degrees

Do I need to send you the paper title in A3 format, or is a scan enough?

A clean scan or high-resolution photo of both sides of the title is fine. The certified digital version from your university, with its verification code, works equally well.

My university has issued a Diploma Supplement (SET). Do I still need a sworn translation?

Sometimes not. If your SET has an English column and the receiving authority is in an English-speaking country, the Supplement can be enough on its own. Send it to me first: better to find out before paying for a translation you didn't need.

I studied years ago and my title is old. Will you translate it?

Yes. Pre-Bologna Spanish titles (licenciatura, diplomatura, ingeniería técnica) and older UK degrees are part of the normal workload. I translate them keeping the terminology of their period, which is what the receiving office expects.

Will Spain's Ministry of Universities accept your translation for a homologation?

Yes. The Ministry requires the translation to be signed and stamped by a sworn translator with a current MAEC appointment (Nº 3189). What the Ministry then decides on the homologation itself depends on your degree and its match with a Spanish qualification.

How long does it take?

Usually 2 to 3 working days. Long transcripts with many subjects may need one more day. On a hard deadline, tell me when you send the documents and I'll confirm whether I can meet it.

Can we handle everything online?

Yes. Send the documents by WhatsApp or email and I deliver the sworn translation digitally with a valid electronic signature. Paper copy on request.
